Last week we spent an afternoon at a local cenote. I remembered, at a previous visit, watching a very pregnant young woman resting on a shelf of white limestone barely submerged in the cool water. So, since I was nursing a hangover, I decided this would be an ideal location to hang out. Little did I realize that the small (1 inch), and not so small fish (3-4 inches), would gather around me and nibble at the dead skin on my feet. I was giggling like crazy and needed to shake them off every so often. We were alone there for quite a while, but another family arrived and that mother found the perfect spot in water just a bit deeper where larger fish (6-8 inches long) came to harvest her feet. We joked about capturing some of these fish and opening an exfoliation center here in Playa. Imagine the ladies squealing while being tickled by a tank of hungry fish! But we were happy to return home with feet as smooth as a baby’s bottom.
