Our next door neighbor (and my painting student), Carolina, invited us to come, last Wed. evening, to her high school where each class had built an alter for the Day of the Dead celebration. We arrived at 6:00 pm just as it was getting dark and could see the candle light inside but couldn’t find the entrance, so asked three boys who were lounging on the street corner. They all immediately jumped to their feet and escorted us to the entry way on Calle 10. There were at least 20 alters, each different, representing the traditions of various states in Mexico. We were the only gringos there with lots of proud parents. It reminded me much of my kids years at Friends Select School in Philadelphia.
