The Pelopidas School where the KKIS Project has been volunteering was created by a foundation in Spain to teach English to children in a working class neighborhood. It is a private school but half of the students receive financial aid. Classes are taught every day half in English and half in Spanish beginning in first grade.
The second grade teacher had been working on a unit about clothing. Our mission is to reinforce the classroom material with projects that are fun and will get the kids speaking in English to us. For this unit we provided each child with a magazine and told them to cut out pieces of clothing, create a paper doll and label all the clothes.
Their creations were priceless.
