I got a note from Jorge Sarabia at Maxar Bookstore in Playa del Carmen the other day saying that he had books for Leyendo at a very reasonable price. This is the family business which the KKIS Project used last year for a huge order of school supplies. I really like the guy and was glad that he wanted to help Leyendo.
Today we visited his shop in the basement level of Plaza de las Americas to see what he had. Our generous Canadian supporter, Megan Mcwhinnie Crouse, had promised some money for books. And what we found was wonderful! Really classic novels written for kids – probably Grade 5 & 6 for some and others for the junior high students. He offered us each book for only 50 pesos, so we picked up 15 of them. I bought El Principito (The Little Prince) for myself to stretch my fledgling Spanish. We also priced the Narnia Series, Harry Potter, Coco and Diaria del Nikki series. All much more expensive even in paperback.
But we are planning a couple fundraising concerts next month in my home with homemade soup after so hopefully those books will be added to the libraries later.
