The following ten posts are about my trip to Oaxaca City and surrounding villages in November, 2019. With the pandemic still raging I am stuck at home so it is good to revisit my travels. Obviously I love Oaxaca, the land of seemingly unlimited artisans, and had visited a couple years earlier but couldn’t resist the draw.
After 30 years as a professional potter the attraction to “handmade” is irresistible.
It was near the holiday when I started looking for accommodations. The hotels were full already. I contacted Gerardo Escalante, the guide/driver I had met on my first trip asking for help. He replied almost immediately and within two days I had a room only three blocks from the public market.
I had managed to book an Airbnb room after the busy holiday but on arrival realized it was not in walking distance from the center of town so cancelled it and found a small rooming house across the street from the public market for the rest of my stay. Every morning hot chocolate or coffee, tamales, grilled nopales or omelette with refríed beans awaited me right across the street.
Hotel National.
Enjoy the posts. They are not in order but that will not dull the experience.
