I realize now that this wonderful trip back to Oaxaca City in November, 2019 was never documented here. So here goes!
We arrived October 31 to join in the excitement and celebration of Día de los Muertos. That afternoon there was a parade of children that arrived in the center of the city in front of the cathedral.
And the next day as night fell music and dancers filled the main pedestrian street.
Later, with Gerardo Escalante our guide and driver, we traveled to cemeteries in the city and out in rural areas to witness the simple to elaborate displays on graves showing respect for departed loved ones. The celebration continues for days with vendors of candles, flowers and food outside every cemetery. We were offered shots of tequila by several families who sat graveside remembering.
